CHUN MI-JIN
My practice begins in painting.
Rather than focusing on the finished image or form, I am interested in the process through which one state shifts into another. On the surface, colour flows, overlaps, and permeates, continually altering its relationships. I am drawn not to the moment when this movement comes to rest and becomes fixed as an outcome, but to the state in between, before a form has fully settled.
This interest extends beyond the pictorial surface into structure and space. My background in architecture has shaped the way I approach the transformation of a plane, folding, bending, and shifting it towards three-dimensional and spatial forms. What begins in painting extends into objects and installations, not as separate mediums, but as a continuous exploration of how one state moves into another.
I explore the mutable states and brief intervals between plane and volume, flow and fixation, chance and determination. Once something settles into a defined form, many of the possibilities and movements that existed along the way disappear. My work follows these processes of change and states of incompletion through material and structure.

CHUN MI-JIN
Chun Mi-Jin is a South Korean-born artist based in Italy, working across painting, objects, and installation. She studied Painting at Hongik University in Seoul before moving to Germany, where she studied Architecture at the State Academy of Art and Design Stuttgart (ABK Stuttgart) and later worked as an architect.
Her practice begins in painting and extends into three-dimensional and spatial work. Her background in both painting and architecture informs the way she approaches colour, structure, material, and transformation, while painting remains the starting point of her practice.
Working between two and three dimensions, Chun explores how states shift, forms emerge, and structures change through material processes. Her work has been presented in South Korea, Germany, Italy, and the United States.
